Headaches and Migraines Might be Caused by Light Sensitivity (Scotopic Sensitivity, Irlen Syndrome)

Headaches and migraines are experienced by millions of people every day (https://www.ihateheadaches.org/headache-statistics.html.

One little know reason for many headaches and migraines is light sensitivity (scotopic sensitivity, Irlen Syndrome). These headache sufferers have brains that are sensitive to certain wavelengths of light. Therefore, the brain cannot process the information provided by these wavelengths. The result is that some people get a headache at some point.

Persons who are sensitive to certain light waves (hence scotopic sensitivity) might have inherited the condition. Others may have acquired light sensitivity (scotopic sensitivity) through head injuries or concussions. Either way, headaches and migraines make it difficult for many people to live life to the fullest. For headaches and migraines caused by light sensitivity, help is easily available and affordable.

A screener can test an individual to determine whether s/he is sensitive to certain light waves. After the screening, the individual with light sensitivity has several options:

  • do nothing
  • use colored overlays for reading to filter the offending light waves
  • visit a diagnostician to be fitted for Irlen Spectral Filters.

Irlen Spectral Filters are unique to the individual and are worn as glasses, contact lenses, or applied to prescription glasses. As soon as the person uses overlays or puts on the filters, there is an immediate relief for the mind and body. I hand my clients a couple colored overlays right away after the screening. That way, they experience immediate relief in the area of reading.
